Curious to learn more about me? Here is the quick version:
I was born and raised in Sacramento, California in a rural community. I’m a country kid at heart, a self-proclaimed bumpkin. I didn’t know what apartments were till I was 13 when we got cable and my parents let me watch ‘Friends’.
School was a struggle. It is hard to fit into the social norm when you are creative, outspoken, and a little weird (okay, maybe more than a little). I was kicked out of 2 preschools, my 2nd grade teacher tried to kick me out to a special needs school because she didn’t know how to handle girls with ADHD, and my high school counselor told me I shouldn’t bother applying to 4-year universities because of my lack of discipline and poor test taking skills. If it had not been for good teachers, performing arts or 4-H, I probably would not have graduated high school, let alone go to college.
After high school released me from it’s talons, I attended San Diego State University and earned a B.S. in Integrated Marketing Communications. In 4 years, I graduated with a 3.8 GPA, a spot on the Dean’s list, and a job offer as an account manager at San Diego’s top digital marketing agency. Take that high school counselor!
After graduation, I made the decision to move back to Sacramento to be closer to my family and start my own business as a freelance marketing consultant. Now, I am focusing on growing my business, Sterk Consulting, and evolving as an entrepreneur. My goal is to change the way small businesses find the services they need to grow; marketing, advertising, management, etc.
When I can pry myself away from my desk, I enjoy spending time with my dog, Annie, exploring and living a healthy lifestyle. I love the outdoors! Hiking, camping, hunting, snowboarding, and skydiving are some of the best ways to spend a day.
